Accessibility Statement
Plain-language summary
Close It Now wants every HVAC and home-services professional to be able to use this website, including people who use a screen reader, keyboard, voice control, screen magnification, or captions. We build to the WCAG 2.2 Level AA standard, we test as we go, and we fix what we find. Some third-party pieces (the podcast player, links to Apple Podcasts and Spotify, reCAPTCHA) are outside our direct control. If anything on the site gets in your way, email [email protected] or call (512) 364-8559 and we will get you the content or help you need, usually within two business days.
Our commitment
Close It Now is committed to making www.closeitnow.net accessible to and usable by everyone, including people with disabilities, and to meeting the accessibility requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) as applied to websites, Section 508 principles, and comparable state laws. Accessibility is part of how we design, write, build, and maintain the site, not a one-time project.
Conformance target
We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). WCAG 2.2 AA is the standard referenced by the U.S. Department of Justice for state and local government websites and the benchmark widely used for private businesses.
Current status: partially conformant. "Partially conformant" means that most of the site meets WCAG 2.2 AA, and that we have identified some content, described under Known limitations below, that does not yet fully conform. We are working through those items and will update this statement as they are resolved.
Measures we have taken
The site is a custom-built static website designed and maintained for Close It Now by CI Web Group. Measures already in place include:
- Semantic structure, one
<h1>per page, logical heading order, landmarks (header, nav, main, footer), lists for lists, and a skip-to-content link. - Keyboard operability, every menu, dropdown (Company, Resources), button, form field, interactive tool step, and the mobile action bar can be reached and operated with a keyboard, with a visible focus indicator on every focusable element.
- Colour contrast, the brand palette (near-black, green, and gold on white and dark panels) is applied so text meets the 4.5:1 minimum (3:1 for large text) and interactive elements meet 3:1 against their surroundings.
- Text alternatives, meaningful images carry descriptive
alttext; decorative graphics, corner marks, and the homepage background video are hidden from assistive technology (aria-hidden). The "kitchen-table" video carries an accessible label. - Motion and animation, reveal animations, the animated gold trace, and the background video respect the operating-system "reduce motion" setting: when it is on, content appears without animation and motion is stopped.
- Forms, every field has a visible label, required fields are announced, validation errors are described in text, and the consent checkbox has an explicit text label. Forms work without a mouse.
- Resizable text and reflow, the site is responsive and remains usable at 200% zoom and at a 320-pixel-wide viewport without horizontal scrolling.
- Consistent navigation, the header, footer, and mobile action bar are the same on every page.
- Readable language, plain English, short paragraphs, and descriptive link text (no bare "click here").
- Testing, automated checks (Lighthouse, axe-style audits) during build and manual keyboard and screen-reader spot checks before launch, then after significant changes.
Known limitations
We are aware of the following limitations and are working on or around them:
| Area | Limitation | Status / workaround |
|---|---|---|
| Podcast player (Captivate.fm embed) | Episode pages play audio in an embedded third-party player. Its controls are the provider's; we cannot guarantee full keyboard or screen-reader support inside the frame, and transcripts are not shown in the player. | The frame carries a descriptive title. Each episode is also available on Apple Podcasts and Spotify, and a written summary or transcript accompanies most episodes on the page. If you need a transcript for a specific episode, contact us and we will provide one. |
| Third-party links | Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, the Inner Revolution book site, event registration, and scheduling pages are operated by others. | We cannot control their accessibility. Contact us if a third-party step blocks you and we will complete it with you another way. |
| reCAPTCHA | Our forms use Google reCAPTCHA (invisible/score-based). In rare cases Google may present a challenge that is difficult for some users. | An audio alternative is offered by Google; if you cannot complete a form, email or call us and we will take your request directly. |
| Résumé upload | The careers form accepts a file upload. Some assistive-technology and file-picker combinations are awkward. | You may email your résumé to [email protected] instead. |
| Migrated blog and episode archive | About 210 articles and episode posts were migrated from the previous website. Some older posts may have images without alt text, inconsistent heading levels, or tables not marked up for screen readers. | We are reviewing the archive in priority order (most-read first). Report a specific post and we will fix it first. |
| PDF and downloadable materials | Workbooks or handouts shared during programs may not all be tagged PDFs. | Ask us for an accessible version of any material. |
| Video | The homepage background video is decorative and silent. Any future instructional video will be captioned. | , |
Compatibility
The site is designed to work with current versions of Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge on desktop and mobile, and with common assistive technologies including VoiceOver (macOS/iOS), NVDA and JAWS (Windows), TalkBack (Android), and browser zoom and high-contrast modes. It does not require JavaScript to read core content; forms and interactive tools do require it.
